There are many criminals who do really bad deeds. Criminals who are child predators, rapists, drug dealers to scammers are pretty low in society. However, the lowest of lowest criminal is an embezzler. When you give your trust to someone to be honest and take care of your money, you expect that person to be ethical.
That’s why this month’s worst criminal of the month is an Apple Valley woman who admitted she embezzled $1M from veterans. The reason for her embezzlement was to support her gambling habit.
Connie Marie Hanson was appointed fiduciary for 33 veterans. She took money from the veterans’ bank accounts in 2006 through 2008 and admitted to filing false documents to cover up her embezzlement. She faces up to five years in prison when she is sentenced later.
Gambling is considered an addiction, however when you steal money from veterans you are demeaning their service to our country. The article on TwinCities.com didn’t say if she had to pay back the money she embezzled. Hopefully that may be part of her sentencing.
