Low crime rate town great place to live! (0)

According to a recent article from the Minnesota Public Radio, Rochester, Minnesota is still listed as a great place to live in magazines like Money and Forbes due to its low crime rate. Even though in the last twenty years more than 40,000 people have moved into the city, the crime rate in 2004 was under 8%. However, the bad news is that violent crime has increased in Rochester, but the good news is that property crimes have decreased.

Sexual predators ordinance stalled in Maplewood, MN (0)

The Maplewood City Council recently tabled a proposed ordinance that would restrict where sexual predators could live in the city. Maplewood would have been only the second Minnesota city to adopt such rules. Taylors Falls passed a similar ordinance earlier this month and St. Paul and Minneapolis are considering such restrictions.

Why doesn’t Minnesota have Jessica’s Law? (0)

A recent article on the Remer Area Chamber of Commerce web site asked what the Minnesota State Legislator is doing to introduce legislation on Jessica’s Law for the state of Minnesota. The author could not find any legislation introduced that would put Minnesota as a proponent for Jessica’s law. The state does have Megan’s law but that is not enough to control child predators in the state.

Coons Rapids Police Department’s Crime Prevention web site (0)

The Coons Rapids Police Department has developed a web site promoting public education and crime prevention. The author of the web site, Lauri Ebel is a fifteen year veteran in Law Enforcement, Corrections and Social Service areas and is dually licensed as a Social Worker and (non-active status) Peace Officer. There are several informational links such as a babysitter’s guide , neighborhood watch programs , and newsletter articles and booklets.

$900M in Byrne grants for drug enforcement (0)

Recently, U.S. Senator Mark Dayton of Minnesota helped to restore the Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Grant programs . The Byrne grants are used to fund state and local police efforts to combat methamphetamine and other drugs. A portion of the money will be used for the Methamphetamine Hot Spots Initiative that will target meth production and trafficking in Minnesota. It will also be used to prevent meth production by targeting meth cooks and lab, cleanup of meth labs, prosecution of meth cooks and dealers, and expanding treatment options for addicts.

How can we keep juvenile crime rate down? (0)

In 2002 and 2003 teen-crime leveled off according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, March 2006. For the first time juvenile crime overall is at the lowest level in 36 years. During this time the youth population from ages 15 to 19 has grown approximately 23%.

DNA solves crimes and convicts criminals. (1)

In the early 1990s collecting DNA samples from convicted offenders began as a trial and quickly expanded to all 50 states later in the decade. DNA’s success of positively matching criminals’ DNA to crimes escalated this effective crime fighting technique. Today at least 170 local crime labs across the country run DNA samples through a national database called CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) to find matches and convict criminals. Nationwide CODIS has collected over 2.7million profiles of which 2.6 million were from convicted offender profiles.

Can drug crimes be controlled in Minnesota? (0)

Recently, according to the Star Tribune a woman was shot during a drug raid by the Southeastern Minnesota Narcotics Task force and other area law enforcement agencies. No details were given on whether she was a repeat user or dealer. How can Minnesota control drug crimes without a serious outcome that recently happened?

Outreach Program keeps our children safe. (1)

The FBI located in Minneapolis has developed a community spirit with its Minneapolis Division Community Outreach Program. The Community Outreach Program links Minnesotans with Federal Law Enforcement so they can access information regarding safety issues and crime statistics. This program has successfully initiated a number of programs during the last year helping to keep Minnesotans safe and aware of crime.
